Leslie Stratton

had

the privilege to play on the Swed-

ish National Softball Team for the

summer. Not only does Leslie plan

to return to SLU as a part-time

interviewer for the Admissions

Office and a volunteer assistant

coach for the softball team; she

will be enrolling at SLU in the fall

of 2015 for her master’s as well.

Recently finishing the New York

City Teaching Fellows Summer

Training Program,

Tiara Davis

is teaching 9th grade history at

Clara Barton High School. In

addition, Tiara plans to attend

graduate school and coach var-

sity and junior varsity cheerlead-

ing with fellow Laurentian Feiona

Maxwell '13.

Oren Shafir

has started a job at

Northwestern Mutual as a finan-

cial representative. He specializes

in financial security and planning

anything from insurance planning,

to retirement savings/invest-

ments, to children's education,

to opening up a restaurant in the

most tax-efficient manner.

Iyi Okunlola

has accepted the

Great Oaks Charter School Tutor

Corps Urban Fellowship Program.

She is tutoring at Great Oaks

Charter School in Newark, N.J.,

for this school year, while also

assisting teachers, performing

administrative duties, and helping

students in small cohorts where

they can receive very focused

attention. Afterward, she plans

to enroll in a graduate program

where she can combine her Peace

Corps service with a graduate-

level education through a Master's

International program.

Marissa Traver

has moved to

Rochester, N.Y., and is working in

the Performance and Reconcil-

ing Department as an operations

associate for Manning & Napier

Advisors, LLC in Fairport.

Employed by Citizen Schools,

Regina Rogers

plans to be a

resource room and enrichment

teacher at Orchard Garden Middle

School in Roxbury, Mass.

Alexander Hoimes

trained in

New York for technology

There’s been lots of moving and

settling in:

Kelsey Leder

moved to Burl-

ington, Vt., and is working as a

clinician at the Howard Center,

a mental illness hospital, to gain

direct patient care experience for

physician assistant school.

Nik Busharis

is working in sales

at TechTarget in Newton, Mass.

He says, “Everything is going re-

ally well so far and I am enjoying

my time here, although I do miss

St. Lawrence a lot!”

Hannah Kinsey

has been

accepted into the Peace Corps!

She will be departing for Vanuatu

in January.

She moved to Bethesda, Md.,

without a job. Now

Elena Ruiz

is a bartender by night and

an educational counseling as-

sociate for PrepMatters by day,

working in educational planning

by helping high school students

strategize test prep and higher

education options.

Marieme Diallo

works at the

Harvard School of Public Health

as a lab technician, researching

mycobacterium tuberculosis.

Down the road,

Obinna “Obi”

Nwaigwe

is analyst at Bain Capi-

tal in Boston.

Alex Almy

was accepted into

Johns Hopkins’s MBA program.

He will be doing that part-time

Nancy Farrand Bailey '86 and

Hanne Bailey '13. She’s the Shipley

Center program coordinator and

two-sport coach at the Dana Hall

School in Wellesley, Mass.

Corey Parent

is running for

Vermont state representative for

the St. Albans area. Motivated

by his desire to bring balance to

the Vermont legislature, and to

work toward finding a solution to

a growing drug epidemic in his

hometown of St. Albans, Corey

will campaign until elections are

held on November 4.

Matthew Saulter

wrote, “I have

recently started a new career as

the content curator for Wayfair

in downtown Boston, Mass. I am

loving living right by Fenway Park

with my beautiful roommate, Mia

O'Donnell '13!”

Matt and Mia aren’t far from me; I

am the manager of development

and student recruitment at Excel

Academy Charter Schools in

East Boston.

Andre Weeks

wrote to SLU

that he has created “a docu-

mentary on Alzheimer's disease

called ‘Alzheimer's: The Disease

We Shouldn't Forget.’" It later

became fully supported by the

Western New York Chapter of

the Alzheimer's Association and

was publicized on their Facebook

page and also the June edition

of their e-newsletter. It can be

viewed at

said some of his work during last

summer's internship was pub-

lished in the

American Journal of

Neuroradiology

. “I was working

on statistical analysis of the Iron

and Volume in the Deep Gray

Matter: Association with Cognitive

Impairment in Multiple Sclerosis

project,” he reported. “I started

working as a research associate

at Dent Neurologic Institute in

Buffalo, N.Y., and ran my first half-

marathon in 1:49:59.”

June 28 in Peterson-Kermani

Performance Hall on campus,

and welcomed many alumni for

the ceremony. There’s a picture

certainly great to see so many

her fiancée

Tom Phalon

, who

got engaged in June. They’ll be

moving from Boston to Syracuse

in the fall.

Amanda Mooney

graduated

from Albany Law School in May

and spent the summer preparing

for the Bar exam. She had plans

to move to Switzerland with boy-

friend Jeremy Wick ’14 in August.

And finally, there is new future

Saint in the mix!

Samantha

Deon Morehouse

and Corey

welcomed a baby girl, Rory Eliza-

beth, on May 16. Weighing more

than eight pounds, she joins big

brother Reed in the family.

has received a

grant from Autism Speaks to

fund her pre-doctoral studies; for

honors thesis working with Karin

own! Joe Keniston ’05, M’07

proposed to me just outside

Richardson Hall in June. We’re

both excited about the months of

Michael Kaplan

Sarah had celebrated their five-

year wedding anniversary. (As if

I didn’t feel old enough thinking

about turning 30 next year!). They

both still live and work in Boston.

Sarah is an assistant manager in

the travel operations department

for Go Ahead Tours and he’s a fi-

nancial advisor at Morgan Stanley.

They are gearing up to welcome

their first child in December.

wrote to let me

know that

Tracy Dana

recently

became a member of the Alumni

Executive Council and they both

enjoyed a great weekend at

Canaras. “If you're interested in

being nominated for the council

or in getting involved with the

University now that you are a few

Madison in the White Mountains

The third annual Gold Gala: An Evening for St. Jude was held on February 22, 2014,

at the Bowery Hotel in New York City. The event was founded by

Christina Strong

’09

and

Samantha Levitan ’09

. More than 500 guests attended the sold-out event,

which celebrated the generosity of New York's young professional community and,

most important, the mission of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Strong says “The

evening was a remarkable success, raising $108,000”; hospital personnel reported in

August that the gala is the leading young professionals event nationwide benefiting St.

Jude’s. The event organizing committee consists of St. Lawrence alumnae (from left)
