She was director of family history for 10 years and
is halfway through a seventh book on her family
history, publishing only copies for her progeny. She
does volunteer work for the Mormon Church and
political awareness.
I have been busy getting my helpers (10-12) for
my committee for Reunion. All have said yes and
they will be calling you to urge you to come to
Reunion.
Don Laidlaw
is working on another
verse for our class song.
Janet Phalon Favro
is my co-chairman, as is
John Hitchcock
, who
will be asking you to think about your gifts to the
Alumni Fund. If any of you have any ideas and wish
to help, please let me know. Janet has a committee
to call the independents and I am sure could use
more helpers.
Deepest sympathy goes out to the families of the
following classmates who passed away within the
last year:
Eugene Jurusek
,
Stanley Smith
(Phi Sigma Kappa,
The Hill News
, KSLU and in my
physics class with Dr. Palmer),
Mary Garvin
O’Neil
(ADPi, two honor societies,
The Hill
News
and
The Laurentian
),
Ann Stevens Fuller
(ADPi, University Choir, cheerleader,
Gridiron
and
in my psychology classes) and
Sarah Barnes
Wade
, head of the Dean-Eaton Snack Shop,
which I frequented too often, and also in the Uni-
versity Choir.
I hope to see you all at Reunion, May 31-June 3.
For those who cannot make it, we will be thinking
of you and wishing you all the best.

Judy Openshaw Findeisen
said she was
“totally isolated” by Hurricane Irene in lateAugust,
but in touch by phone and email. All the roads in
her area of Killington, Vt., were washed out. She
said if she needed to contact her son Butch ’76,
she would have to go through Massachusetts and
New York to reach him on the other side of the
mountain.
The story was far different for

Richardsons suffered. Bud did report that most
of their 14 acres were awash. He said that their

looked so good.
Larry Schneible
has been inducted into the
Hall of Fame in his hometown of Rome, N.Y. Lar-
ry was a four-sport standout (football, baseball,
hockey, tennis) at Rome Free Academy, and then
a stalwart in both football and hockey at St. Law-
rence. He joined the St. Lawrence Hall of Fame
in November when the hockey teams of 1951-
’52, ’54-’55 and ’55-’56 became “Teams of Fame”
during Homecoming Weekend inductions. Joining
him were
Dave Karlen
,
Bill Baynes
and
Don
Moten
. As previously reported in this space,
Baynes has passed away. Carol Schneible Lewis ’80
was inducted in 2003 for her outstanding career
in riding; Larry’s induction will make them the only
father-daughter combination in the Hall of Fame.
And, yes, Mom

during a visit to Rome,N.Y., onAugust 19. Jack had
clipped the story on Larry from the

Dick Baldwin

casion to visit the campus during September with

and

. As the football
season had not yet begun, Dick had to postpone
his opportunity to see the Saints in action.
Chuck Woodell
and your reporter got to-
gether for our annual “Laker Celebration” on the
shores of Lake Ontario at Henderson Harbor, N.Y.
For the past eight years we have joined a group
composed of mostly veterans of our 1958Water-
town football team. The very accomplished group
includes a minister, a lawyer, a college professor
(retired) by the name of Rocco Pangallo ’63, sev-
eral engineers, an investment broker, a retired Air
Force colonel, a psychologist, a retired wrestling
coach and athletic director and a partridge in a
pear tree!
The Shields kids got together with their parents
in August to celebrate a “50/80” weekend at Lake
Placid. I’m sure some classmates belong in the
group celebrating a 50th wedding anniversary and
a pair of 80th birthdays. We had a lot fun, played
some golf,“did” the town and generally enjoyed the
company of six children (three alumni), four spous-
es and nine “grands.” It was all very rewarding.
