Navy men who were at SLU during that time. Bell

I had a nice telephone conversation with

Glass Works and Museum and found a new mu-
seum there with old cars and early airplanes.Ginny
sounded just as perky as ever.
I regret I have no other news of our class. Don’t
let us be forgotten. Please write, call or email me.
It is important that we keep in touch. I relish any
news.

Next Reunion: 65th,
May 31-June 3, 2012
In September you received the warm and enthusi-
astic letter from
Bell Herndon
and
Fred Zito
encouraging you to attend the Class Reunion com-
ing up May 31-June 3. It’s the 65th anniversary of
our graduation! That’s hard to believe but true.
So now is the right time to think seriously about
attending. A good turnout of our surviving class-
mates will make the reunion time a truly memo-
rable occasion. A handshake, a hug, lots of conver-
sation and laughter are so much better than just
writing and reading. Travel may be a big effort for
us these days, but your presence will be a reward
for everyone else attending.
Bell and Fred, both veterans of theWorldWar II
Navy units at St. Lawrence, say that only a relative
few of their fellow veterans have been in touch
with the University. So
all
men from SLU V-5 and
V-12 units are enthusiastically invited to participate
in the coming reunion. Please forward your own
address and any information you have on others of
your fellow veterans.

June Cosgrove Hefti
’s granddaughter, Estella
Hefti ’11, graduated cum laude from SLU in May.
It was an outdoor ceremony on a beautiful day
and they especially enjoyed the Commencement
speaker, Tom Brokaw. She and Jack had lunch
recently with
Jean Burchell Wells
in North
Palm Beach, Fla.
Ellen Spraque Burnup
’s grandson is a fresh-
man at a college in Tennessee.
Danny Parker
Hadlock
says her latest exercise is tai chi.
Bob-
bie Pacyga Newell
still plays the piano for vari-
ous events – mostly classical.
Georgia Heppe
Kudan
and Chuck ’49’s grandsons are sopho-
mores at Hobart/William Smith and Colby. She
would be so proud.
Betty Myers Francois
had another great
summer at the family camp near her home. She
especially enjoyed when her granddaughter visited
from California.
Carmen Tringali Carbone
is
still volunteering at the hospital and playing bridge
daily.
Margie Sabia Crotty
had her daughters
visiting her this summer. I keep reminding her in
two more years we’re going back for our 65th re-
union at SLU!
I received a lovely note from
Virginia Peter-
son Berguson
, who lives in Little Falls, Minn.,
100 miles north of Minneapolis on the banks of the
Mississippi River. Ginny is married to Richard Ber-

dren and two great-grandchildren (probably three
by the time you read this), all “above average” as
they say in Lake Woebegone. Dick retired and
loves golf. They ski no longer, but remain active
and healthy. Their children are scattered and they
visit them as often as possible. She sends love and
best wishes to all their classmates.
Lillian Belmont Costaregni
’s grandson,
Tim Carpenter ’13, is an ATO at SLU. I am sure
that pleased his grandfather, George.
Hope you all had a wonderful fall. Keep in
touch.

Sperling ’52 and I had a little reunion luncheon in
August but no one had any news to report. I did
hear via the grapevine (i.e., her brother Preston
Carlisle ‘52) that
Betsy Carlisle Rogers
had
hip surgery and is recovering well.
Then came a wonderful email from
Andy Doty
reporting that he has been chosen by the Hud-
son Falls (N.Y.) High School for its Wall of Dis-
tinction, a display of portraits and biographies of
school alumni who have fared well in life. Andy
was president of the Class of 1944, lettered in four
sports and was named an all-conference halfback.

Attending SLU after the war, Andy was elected
to Kixioc in his senior year. Following his gradua-
tion, he became a reporter for the

, then began a career at three universities:
Johns Hopkins, Michigan and Stanford. In 1989,
Andy was named Palo Alto’s Outstanding Profes-

tion for “A Lifetime of Achievement.” He retired
from Stanford in 1993 as director of community
relations. Andy and his high school sweetheart
have been married since 1950 and they have three
daughters and six grandchildren in Palo Alto and
Boulder, Col. Congratulations, Andy, on a life well
lived.

I talked with

Come October, she was planning a trip up the

with her two children who live in Dover and the
