Come Back,
Give Back
A
s you make plans to return for
Reunion this May 31 - June 3, we
hope you’ll consider how your re-
union gift can help make the St. Lawrence
experience as unique and meaningful for
today’s students as it was for you.
If you think less than a $50 gift doesn’t
matter, think again! Last year, gifts of
$25-$50 added up to more than $100,000
for St. Lawrence. Gifts support everything
from financial aid and student-faculty
research to student activities and study
abroad. It’s all about the
collective
impact.
If you’ve not been a regular supporter of
the St. Lawrence Fund, your reunion year
is a great time to begin! For information
on the various types of giving vehicles that
we offer, visit www.stlawu.edu/giving.
To maximize the
impact of your Reunion
gift, consider pledging
over a multi-year period.
Please call 888-SLU-
GIFT for more informa-
tion about multi-year
pledging options. There
are special account-
ing guidelines for 50th
and 45th reunions, in
particular.
Participate today and help your class set
a record or take home a special award!

New Scholarship Program Allows
New Option to Aid Students
By Renee Hilbrunner ’12
T
hrough a new program, alumni, parents and friends will be able
to support St. Lawrence students by making gifts that will be used
for unrestricted scholarships as part of those students’ comprehen-
sive financial aid packages. These scholarships will not only make the SLU
experience more accessible to students with high academic promise, but will
also help students in networking with alumni, according to Barbara Knauf,
associate director of alumni and parent programs.
“Some donors like to know how their gifts are being put to use,” Knauf
says. With a gift of $5,000 or more, donors can have a scholarship named in
their honor that will help students achieve their academic goals, according to Knauf.
“A gift pledged and paid in a given fund year will be awarded as a scholarship the
following academic year,” Knauf says. Ideally, donors will pledge annually throughout
their scholarship recipients’ time at St. Lawrence. Knauf adds that the donor and the
student will be encouraged to exchange letters, emails and phone calls throughout the
student’s SLU career, helping the student build his or her alumni relationships.
“Because these scholarships are unrestricted, it will give more flexibility to the
financial aid staff in awarding funds to students,” Kim Robinson Hissong ’94, direc-
tor of alumni and parent programs, says. As always, they will consider students’ total
financial aid packages when awarding the scholarships, according to Hissong.
