As the co-chair for the class of
2003 Young Alumni Committee,
Kristin Putz Campbell ’03 says the
best part of her position is being
able to give back to St. Lawrence.
After college, Campbell received

realization of a Laurentian com-
munity well beyond the boundaries
of the North Country compelled
Campbell to become involved in
the Young Alumni Committee.
“I received so much from St.
Lawrence, and want to give future
students the same op-
portunities to belong to
the community that is
St. Lawrence,” Camp-
bell notes. Many of
the connections I’ve
made have gotten me
where I am today, both
in my career and in my
personal life.”
Campbell is man-
ager of events for the Council for
International Exchange of Scholars,
a division of the Institute of Inter-
national Education in Washington,
D.C. One of her primary respon-
sibilities as Class of 2003 Young
Alumni Committee co-chair, with

academic excellence while securing its fi-
nancial future – is to “engage alumni more
deeply to enrich University connections
and expand participation and support of
all kinds.”
This includes taking greater advantage
of what many have described as one of St.
Lawrence’s greatest strengths: the powerful
connection that alumni share with each
other, with students and with the entire
University community.
“This connection to the essential work
of the University manifests itself in the
many ways that alumni support St. Law-
rence students in internship experiences
and career planning,” the Strategic Map
says, highlighting how alumni help en-
hance and add experiential learning oppor-
tunities for students, such as internships,
student-faculty research, off-campus study
and similar programs. Such programs

any alumni already know

in developing the so-named Strategic Map,
serving alongside faculty, students, staff
and trustees as members of the Mapping
Council and as writers and editors of the
draft that was endorsed by the Board of
Trustees in October (see page 1).
Building on such alumni dedication will
be a key to the map’s success, says President
William L. Fox (see his essay on the inside
back cover). Many are already doing their
part, serving as admissions ambassadors,
providing internships and career counsel-
ing, and giving back to the University in
many other ways.

One goal of the Strategic Map is to expand alumni connections with students.
