in front of chapel. First chime
concert scheduled for May
26, 1926, but postponed until
June 7 to permit broadcast
arrangements so donor and
novelist Irving Bacheller, Class
of 1882, can hear the first notes
at home over radio relay.
Commencement moves to the chapel from Town Hall
on Main Street.

1921 in Fisher Hall
(Theological School
building on the site of
today’s ODY Library),

Former chimer John Boudiette ’42 establishes the
Boudiette Chime Fund to assist in maintenance of
equipment and compensation of chimers.

New parts and adjustments make bells easier to play,
but displease traditionalist ringers. One technician
remarks that “now girls can play the bells.” Three of
the five ringers at the time are women.

First 100th Night observance.

Gloria Steinem speaks as part of
Laurentian Leadership Weekend.

First-Year Convocation inaugurated.

First “Got Spirit?” Gospel
Workshop, which becomes
an annual event.
Cornerstone of Gunnison laid (same day as cornerstone
of Hepburn Hall). The chapel is built of stone quarried
less than 10 miles from campus, at a cost of $250,000,
which generates complaints of excessive spending.
