John Linsley '04 (KSP fall '02), keeper of this column, spent the summer in Ghana with the International Organization for Migration, developing educational programming for rescued trafficked children.  He spent the fall in Washington, D.C., working on the East Africa desk at the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, taking final graduate courses, and (in December) completing an M.A. in international relations at the Maxwell School.

Donald Stewart (Duke, KSP spring ’85) wrote from Charlotte, N.C., where he lives and runs an ophthalmology practice.  He said his wife and two kids have not (yet) accompanied him on a return trip to Kenya, but that he hopes to arrange for this soon.  Don (dstewart3@gmail.com) would love to hear from other spring '85 KSP alums.

Former Kenyan scholar Nicolette Oleng ’05 planned to spend the holidays with her family in Kenya.  Nicolette is a third-year medical student at the State University of New York Upstate Medical University in Syracuse.

Jeff Haskins ’02 (KSP spring ’01) wrote from Nairobi, where he is living and working for Burness Communications, a public relations and media firm for non-profits.  Jeff also traveled to Ghana last summer. 

A round of updates from some fall 2002 KSP alums: Tristan Statler ’04 recently passed the bar exam in Ohio.  Jessie Davie ’04, Katie Gauthier ’04 and Sarah Ellis ’04 met in Park City, Utah, for the Thanksgiving holiday.  Jessie had plans for travels in Kenya and Uganda in January.  Sarah is finishing up her graduate studies in international development at the University of Denver’s Korbel School. 
As noted in last fall’s magazine, Katie was recently awarded a Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarship.  She will spend one year as a goodwill ambassador to Uganda, making presentations to local Rotary chapters and other Ugandan organizations. 

I caught up with Steve Alexander ’03 and his girlfriend in Boston over Thanksgiving week.  The two co-direct St. Lawrence’s Adirondack Semester program.      

Doug McCabe ’03 (KSP spring ’02) is ski patrolling full-time, spending winters at the Yellowstone Club in Montana and summers in the mountains of New Zealand’s South Island.

Last fall at a St. Lawrence wedding in Vermont, I saw Eric DeBergh ’03 (KSP spring ’02) and Sam Timberg (Middlebury, KSP fall ’05).  Eric is living in Boulder, Col., where he is a rock-climbing guide and expedition manager for the Colorado Mountain School.  Eric has climbed in Kenya and recently earned his instructor certification from the American Mountain Guides Association.  Sam traveled to South Africa after his KSP, to explore the winelands around Stellenbosch.  He is now based in New York City as the regional sales manager for the South African wine importer Cape Classics.  Sam (sam@capeclassics.com) would like to connect with KSP alums in the New York area.

Brendan Hayes ’04 (KSP spring ’03) wrote from the Malawian capital Lilongwe, where he recently finished writing his graduate thesis and is living with his fiancée.  Also in Malawi is Hope Thornton ’01; see her picture for details.
