Nnaumbua Farrell ’08 Trinidad/Canada
“I’ve Been Blessed”
Nnaumbua
Farrell ’08 was born and raised in Canada, although his
heritage is Trinidadian. His parents are originally from Trinidad; “they
came to Canada for college and ended up staying,” he
explains. The physical, cultural and meteorological distance
may not be as great, but Farrell also left his home country
for his college education.
The biology major from Niagara Falls, Ont., first heard about
St. Law-rence at a college display in Toronto. A family friend
recommended
St. Lawrence, and as Farrell says, “that got the ball
rolling.”
After visiting the campus during the summer, Farrell knew
he wanted to attend St. Lawrence. “I was impressed with
the quality of the facilities and the level of concern that
officials had for the students,” he says. The recipient
of the William J. ’69 and Jill S. ’69 Crombie Scholarship,
he adds, “and hey, the scholarship didn’t hurt
either!”
Farrell says he has been enjoying his first year at St. Lawrence. “With
the people I’ve met and the opportunities I’ve
had,” he says, “I’ve been personally blessed.” He
is secretary of the African Student Union, and he helped plan
a dinner in the fall semester and during Africa Week in the
spring. As he finishes his first year and looks toward the
future, Farrell applies his philosophy of life: “We’ll
take it as it comes. For now, I’ll keep on the way I’m
going.”
