Cultural Explorer
A
junior majoring in mathematics and economics, Raluca Dragusanu ’06
says she is appreciating every moment at
St. Lawrence, realizing that not everyone in her native country
of Romania has had the same opportunities that she has.
The native of Bacau, Romania, says she found out about St.
Lawrence from other Romanian students, such as Stefi Anton ’04.
Ultimately, she says, she decided to come to St. Law-rence
because of “the great academic opportunities and generous
financial aid.”
Dragusanu has been a teaching assistant (TA) for mathematics
and German, and is planning to be a TA in economics in the
fall as well. She has also been on the executive boards of
Model United Nations and the Investment Club. On the campus
job front, she was an intern in the modern languages and literatures
department, an assistant for the ODY Library systems office
and an assistant in the international and intercultural studies
office.
Her connection to international and intercultural studies
is also curricular; she studied in Denmark in the spring of
2004. “The semester in Denmark was one of the great experiences
of my life,” Dragusanu says. “I came in contact
with a different culture again, which I found very interesting
and warm.” She says that the courses were very challenging
as well.
Dragusanu hopes one day to work for an international organization
such as the United Nations. And she hopes she will always be
able to travel and become acquainted with different cultures
around the world.
