mailed Bob and found out that he was with Chris
Peterson duringWorldWar II and they have been
friends since then. The Petersons visited the Park-
ers inWatertown. It was good to hear from Bob.
Our granddaughter Jennifer Lackmann (Dave ’77
and Sue ’77) graduated from high school and will
be going toWake Forest. Sarah Ellison (Doug ’79)
will be a sophomore at Roanoke College.
I would love to hear about your summer ac-

We are saddened to learn that
Sally Sloat
passed away August 17, 2010. I was concerned
when I didn’t receive the annual Christmas greet-
ing from her.
Can you believe our class graduated 65 years ago?
I did not go to Reunion. It is quite a trip from Flor-
ida, especially after losing my travelling companion,
Judy Woodhead DeRitter
. In fact, many who
always returned have passed away, such as
Fran
Browning
and
Curt Chamberlain
.
All the more reason for our classmates to stay in
touch before too many more changes occur. Con-
tact me; I’ll be happy to share any news with the
rest of the class. If you did attend Reunion this year,
please send me news about it.

Bill Sherman
and his wife, Adlyn, are rejoicing
that their grandson, Harry Sherman, was in the
graduating class at SLU in May.At last report Har-
ry’s plans were just taking shape, but it wouldn’t
surprise the family if he headed for Wall Street
on the career path of his father, Bill’s son, John.At
retirement, Bill was the senior economic develop-
ment officer for the State of Maryland.
Bill and Adlyn enjoy year-round living in Delray
Beach, Fla. Their neighbors and good friends are
Jack ’50 and June Cosgrove Hefti ’48, who also had
a graduate in this year’s class, their granddaughter
Estella.
We are glad to learn that
Pat Mitchell In-
fantine
is enjoying life in a retirement home in
Jamesville, N.Y., near the places and people she has
known for years.

I called
John Quirk
a week after the alumni
weekend in June, hoping he would have all the
news. Unfortunately he didn’t drive up to Can-
ton this year. When he lived in New Jersey, it was
an easier trip but now he lives in Maryland. He
missed the Honor Guard dinner for the first time
in 20 years.
John enjoys his trips to Florida to see his grand-
daughter. He had a St. Patrick’s Day party for 18
friends from Morristown, N.J. When I asked John
if he used the computer, his reply was, “Only for a
short time. All I could get were naked women so
my daughter disassembled it and threw it out the
window.” He said I could quote him.
Barbara Griffiths ’47 and
Jack Klemens
live in
Canton. They have three children and two grand-
children. One is at Cayuga, very active in softball,
and one at Clarkson.
Barb mentioned speaking to June Campfield Kir-
by ’47, who lives in Chapel Hill, N.C. She gave me
her phone number and we had a nice chat remi-
niscing about the Winter Carnivals at the hockey
rink at 26 below zero. She was a chorus number
and they made and wore tiger costumes. I think
that was the year I did a pairs number with John
Ladue ’49. Who would have thought that years
later we would be in “Holiday on Ice.”
Phyllis Schutz Cashin
’s granddaughter is a
KKG. She has the same room Phyllis had at SLU.
Ellin Sprague Burnup
and
Marge Sabia
Crotty
attended their grandsons’ high school
graduations. Around the same time, George ’50
and
Lillian Belmont Costaregni
celebrated
their 62nd anniversary.
I received a note from a friend of
Nancy Foote
Meszaros
that she died May 1 in Maryland. Our
condolences to her family.
I received a call from
Ralph Harper Robins
’
sister, Anne Robins Frank N’40, saying Ralph died
on December 22, 2010. Back in ’06 and ’09, Ralph
sent me news for my ’48 alums. He returned to
SLU for our 40th and 50th reunions with his wife,
GinnyWilson Robins. His father was professor of
philosophy at SLU 1930-1943. Living in Canton,
he said he followed SLU sports all his “growing-up
years.” Our condolences to his family.
Jack ’50 and
June Cosgrove Hefti
returned
to SLU for their granddaughter Estella’s graduation
on May 22. It was a great family reunion. June was
a Kappa Delta and after her sorority dissolved, it
became Kappa Delta Sigma. Estella joined in her
sophomore year and lived in the same building and
the same room June had when she was there in
the ’40s.What a coincidence!
Thanks to June, who supplied a phone number, I
finally reached
Jean Burchell Wells
in North
Palm Beach, Fla. After graduation she worked at
Young & Rubicam in NewYork City for eight years,
doing editing and research for George Gallup. She
has four children and eight grandchildren.
Carmen Tringali Carbone
flew to Argenti-
na in March to meet her brother. She enjoyed the
10 days of warm weather after our cold winter.
Betty Myers Francois
said they set snow
records in the Adirondacks last winter and were
still skiing atWhiteface in April. At the end of the
season, they have “pond skimming.” She explained
that it’s skiing down the mountain at a high speed,
then trying to cross the pond before sinking!
Sarah Watson Spaulding
lives in Hampton,
Va. I spoke to her daughter-in-law, Beth. Sarah
has five children, six grandchildren and four great-
grandchildren.
I received a call from
Phyllis Schutz Cashin
asking if I was OK since I skipped a column. I was
so busy with my prom season at my dress shop
that I just didn’t have the time. Phyllis has a great
time with her grandchildren.
Hope you all had a great summer. I’m still plan-
ning to go to our 65th in less than two years.

I seem to have worn out my ’49ers for the last
publication, having received nothing new since
then. Please be in touch with your class reporter.

clearly enjoyed
