became engaged to Rachel
Lindstrand ’06 on June 8, 2011, and their wedding
is planned for June 30, 2012, in Lake George, N.Y.
“We look forward to seeing many of our SLU
friends and enjoying a week at the base of the
Adirondacks,” he said. Mike has signed with the

enough to SLU to warrant an in-season visit.”
I have started a new writing job as a freelance
blogger for a local radio station in the Albany,
N.Y., area, but I still write full-time for The
Record
newspaper in Troy, N.Y. I enjoyed another busy
wedding season that started with
Emily Stahl
Grimes
in Vermont, along Lake Champlain. She
and her husband got married last year but they
had a larger ceremony with friends and family this
year. I saw
Shawna Weeks
and Allison Turcotte
VanGuilder ’04, who were both bridesmaids. The
wedding was beautiful and was a great fusion of
southern customs with Emily’s Hispanic roots.
I also attended one that I had been anticipating
and planning for quite a while, since it was my dear
friend
Clementine Vitek
, who I met 10 years
ago in my FYP at SLU. Her other bridesmaids in-
cluded
Liz Chadwick Burns
,who was the maid
of honor, and
Chinasa Izeogu Seyse
. Eric Sey-
se ’06 and
Lindsay Farrar
also attended.
The reason we all had been planning for the wed-
ding for a while was that the ceremony and recep-
tion were in Northern Ireland, in the Crom castle
estate near the border with Ireland. We took
wedding photos at the nearby ruins dating back to
the 1600s; the castle, where the event took place,
is from the mid-1800s. Clementine and her hus-
band stayed in “Camilla’s room,” where members
of the royal family, including Camilla, have stayed
since the family who own the estate is related to
the royals.
The wedding included about 50 people repre-
senting 12 different nationalities, which makes
sense since her husband is Belgian, she is part
Czech, and they met in Dublin in grad school. The
Americans used the occasion as an excuse for a
vacation; most of us spent time in Ireland and the
UK. I also stopped in Iceland on the way back for
a few days, which was an interesting experience
with the country’s geysers, hot springs, volcanoes,
