Congratulations to
Laurie Ballentine Ferris

lentine Ferris. Sally was born last June and Laurie is
enjoying being at home raising her full-time in New
York City.
Gillian Willcox-Jones Marziarz

that they are all doing well and that she and her
family were looking forward to their annual trip
to Boston in November to visit

from you, Laurie!

Mark Cutler
and his wife,Melanie, spent last July
traveling in Spain with their daughters, Emmy, 5 and
Sophia, 3. They visited Mark’s host families from
semesters and summers in Spain. It sounds like an
amazing trip!
I also heard from
Kristin Dasher Helm
,
who I had completely fallen out of touch with for
several years since she left medical school. Kristin
graduated from Johns Hopkins University School
of Medicine in 2002, and then completed her en-
docrinology fellowship at the University ofVirginia.
She and her husband, Pat, now live in Milton, Mass.
She is an endocrinologist working part-time in a
multi-specialty group practice just south of Bos-
ton.
Kristin and Pat have two kids – Christopher, 4,
and Lauren, 2.Their family spent some time visiting
Kristin’s parents in Syracuse last summer, and the
kids loved swimming in their grandparents’ pool,
of course!

August (they met at work!). They plan to travel
and do volunteer work for the next six to 12
months before settling down again.“We’re heading
to Croatia and Italy for a month, then Belize for
two months of volunteering with children and ani-
mals,” he said. “Haven’t planned the rest, but we’re
thinking New Zealand andAustralia (where
Andy
Bardeschewski
and his girlfriend just spent a
year traveling) followed by a road trip around the
U.S. We’ll be looking to our SLU friends for places
to crash!”
I heard from
Megan St. Clair Marino
via
Facebook. She and her husband, Christopher Ma-
rino, were expecting a boy in December. They have
two daughters: Julianna, 4, and Norah, 3. She went
to Granbury,Tex., last summer for the wedding of
her sister, Maureen St. Clair ’00, to Matthew Karl,
and saw a lot of Laurentians.
Amy Tambini
and husband Josh Rothman ’00
welcomed the birth of their second child, a son,
Baylor Upton, on December 20, 2010. They also
bought a townhouse on Okemo Mountain, Vt.,
where their daughter, Piper, 3, learned to ski. They
were looking forward to
Kira Wind
’s fall wed-
ding in Napa.
Tiffany O’Connor Hofmann
,
Michelle Alexander Kolev
and
Lauren
Casey Conway
all planned to attend as well.
Congratulations, Kira!
I also had the pleasure of catching up with my
old friend
Julie Pattison Eriksen
. In addition
to going to St. Lawrence together, Julie and I also
went to junior high and high school together. Ju-
lie and her husband, Oystein, have been traveling
around the world. Oystein works for the Norwe-
gian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They lived, studied
and worked in Norway for four years, then moved
to Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, for three years
where Julie taught Norwegian and did freelance
work for a bank. They moved to Houston, Tex.,
in 2007, and Julie worked for a small Norwegian
company. Last year, they moved back to the sub-
urbs of Oslo, Norway. Julie and Oystein have had
a child during each of their postings: Karolina, 7,
was born in Norway; Helena, 5, was born in Bos-
nia; and Eva Nathalie, 1, was born in Texas! Julie is
considering taking some master’s courses in busi-
ness at the University of Oslo. Good luck with all
of that, Julie!
Liz Polzl Sanchirico
and Paul ’97 were ex-
pecting their sixth child (nope, not a typo!) in early
September. Liz and Paul live in Lewiston, Idaho,
where Paul is a radiologist.
Abi Howe Hastillo
and Mike also welcomed
a new baby last summer. Adella Frances was born
on July 16. Her big brother, Gunnar, turned 3 in
early October. They live in Coventry, Conn.; Abi
works in the geology department at the University
of Connecticut.
My husband,
Jim MacGregor
, had a chance to
meet up with
Matthew Thurston
for a drink a
few weeks ago. Matt lives in Falls Church,Va., with
his wife,Abby, and their two kids. He works for an

of endearment than I did. Jeff also tells us Baylor
Johnson (of philosophy, our FYP and outdoor stud-
ies) and
Dan McDonnell
,who works in the SLU
Outdoor Program, were exploring the possibility
of creating a whitewater play park on the Grasse
River in Canton.
Everything sounds like it’s been great with Jeff.
He’s planning a trip out West next year, so maybe
I’ll get a chance to show a little bit of Colorado
to him.
Liz Thomas
succinctly informs me that she’s
engaged, planning a wedding for the fall and mov-
ing back to the North Country, ending that action-
packed sentence with an exclamation point. Good
luck to you, Liz!
Another brief note says that
Diana Walden
Abbott
gave birth to a baby girl, Evelyn Laurel,
on May 14, 2011. Both mother and daughter are
happy and healthy.
Stacy Eyth
and
Spencer Jones
welcomed
a baby boy on July 9, 2011. Tucker William is the
lad’s name.
Monique Nichols Porter
found my last
plea for news so amusing she was still laughing
three months later when she wrote back—some
excuse about a toddler was given, but whatever.
Monique and husband Chris welcomed a daughter,
Maya Grace, in March. “She’s quite the gem (i.e.,
she sleeps!),” she said. “We’re both already lobby-
ing with her about which ECAC school to go to in
