sent news “from
the past several years!”...but hey - better late
than never! Nancy writes, “My husband, Stephen
Houston, an archaeologist and specialist in the
ancient Maya (he received a MacArthur Fellow-
ship in 2008), has been busy teaching at Brown,
organizing a traveling exhibit on the Maya & the
Sea, giving invited lectures in places like Madrid,
Paris, London and Washington, D.C., and excavat-
ing in northern Guatemala. For the past several
summers, I’ve gone down to Antigua, Guatemala,
for his project’s ‘lab season.’” They’ve also taken
pleasure trips toVenice and Florence.
Their son, Anders, graduated from Rhode Island
School of Design (RISD) in 2009 with a degree in
illustration, moved to Salt Lake City that Decem-

the academic year in Williamstown, Mass., where
he has a sabbatical fellowship at the Clark Art In-
stitute.
Nancy has kept in touch with

drove to Lee and Neal’s place in Sparkill, N.Y.,
on Memorial Day “for a pleasant change of pace
while waiting for Steve to return from his dig in
the jungle.“
She’s also seen
Kath Anderson
and
Doug

a couple of times since graduation.
She added, “I keep hoping that one of these sum-
mers, I’ll see them at the Casa Herrara, the Univer-
sity of Texas’ study center in Antigua, Guatemala,
which is under Doug’s auspices in his role as dean
of UT’s College of Fine Arts.”
Mary Izant ’76 kindly sent along this update from

: “Jerry and I have been in
Oswego for the last 32 years (never planned that!).
He still works in admissions at the university and
I have been the alumni director and now associ-
ate VP for 27 years!” Daughter Caitlin graduated
from Notre Dame and Temple Law School and is
an attorney in Philadelphia. Megan graduated from
the University of Delaware, then spent three years

In July,
Mitch Brown
and I exchanged several
emails as we coordinated on preparing an article
for the fall SLU magazine about the John Clark
“Roast”/Wrestler Reunion held over the weekend
of June 10-12 in Canton. Mitch was one of the
main organizers for the event. I learned that he
was traveling to Richmond,Va., to watch his daugh-
ter play in a lacrosse tournament July 15-17. While
there, he hoped to coordinate a get-together with
Andy Reinhardt ’75, who was captain of SLU’s foot-
ball team during Mitch’s freshman year. Mitch was
looking forward to catching up over dinner. During
the trip, he also wanted to link up with Dr.
Tom
Eschenroeder
and
Janet Dingle Brown
, Esq.
We hope to hear more news in a future column.
In June, I wrapped up employment with Wipro’s
Insurance Vertical practice and lined up an inde-
pendent consulting assignment with Navigant Con-
sulting. The assignment is with a Wisconsin-based
commercial insurance carrier; I will lead the busi-
ness requirements process to replace their policy
processing system.

I’m so excited: my daughter, Megan ’14, has fol-
lowed in my footsteps and pledged KDS. Also
joining was Carey Kaiser ’14, whose dad is
Bill
Kaiser
. I also heard that
Meg Friske Mont-
gomery
’s son, Robert ’14, pledged Beta. The
Greek system has changed a lot since we were
there but they are still hanging in there. There are
two fraternities now, ATO and Beta, both recolo-
nized, and four sororities: KDS, Delta, Chi Omega
and KKG. Let me know if there are some CHIPS
I missed.
I saw
Peter Sullivan

Canaras. Both of his kids are in college this year;
Amy is a junior and Eric a freshman. They are both
in schools in Washington state; Pete still lives in
the Seattle area.
I saw a few classmates last summer at the July
wedding of Kelly Waterbury and Trevor Ma-
comber, son of
Elizabeth Collins
and
Jon
Macomber
. In attendance were
George
and
Eileen
Eichmann
, and
Beth Drummond
and
David Kearney
. Daughter Emma ’12 also was
there.Trevor and Kelly got married in the Collins’s
backyard on the ocean in Samoset, Me. Elizabeth
and Jon were married there 30 years before. The
entire wedding party, minus one, from 30 years
ago came back.
I’d love to hear from more of you. Please friend
me on Facebook and send me some news.

at a lodge 30 feet off shore — on a pier, fortu-

was “playing lots of tennis and building lots of

taken a new management position at the Breakers
Hotel in Palm Beach, Fla., after almost two years as
a manager at the Plaza Hotel in NYC.
Josie Lowden Chapman
emailed from
campus in August with, “I am up at SLU right now,
dropping off my son, George, who is starting his
freshman year! It was such fun to see Chris Auty
dropping off his daughter and Shawn Smeallie ’81
dropping off his daughter, Marie! And, fun knowing
that
Pris Menzies Keller
’s son Cooper ’14 was
at football practice. The campus looked so good
and so vibrant and full of anxious but excited new
students. I could only feel excited for them all and
a bit sad it wasn’t me starting my freshman year
with all of you all over again! What a wonderful
time we all had and what a special place it is!”
