Jamie is also the sta liaison for Wings, which
she calls “the young philanthropy group focused
on supporting the next generation of Adirondack
stewards (www.wildcenter.org/wings).” Several
alumni are engaged with the group and on its
Steering Committee!
She bought a house in Saranac Lake in 2010 and
says, “Owning a home has been very rewarding...I
think I might have the land baron itch!” And she
recently became engaged, while on holiday in
Amsterdam, to Kyle Ford, Skidmore '05. They are
planning a fall 2012 wedding.

Hi, classmates! I heard fromonly a handful of you
this time around, but was excited that many were
rst-time contributors. Thank you for reaching
out! I know there are a lot more great stories and
nuggets of news out there, so please continue to
share, nomatter the time of year! I love being able
to share your accomplishments with our class and
the greater Laurentian
community.
Karla General
was
admitted to the New
York State Bar Associa-
tion earlier this year. In
May 2010, she received
her JD in global law and
practice from Syracuse
University College of Law and was also awarded
a Master of Arts in sociology from Syracuse’s
Maxwell School of Citizenship & Public A airs.
Karla had worked for the Indian Law Resource
Center since October 2010, at their main o ce
in Helena, Mont., but recently transferred as sta
attorney to the Washington, D.C., o ce. An ar-
ticle she wrote, “Securing Indigenous Rights to
Sacred Places with the UN Declaration,” was re-
cently featured in
Indigenous Notes
, the Resource
Center’s newsletter.
I had the chance to catch up with
Guin Sea-
ward,
who is also in Washington, and is a tax
attorney at an accounting rm where she man-
ages the state and local tax practice. She recently
found out that a paper she wrote will be pub-
lished by the American Bar Association’s
Tax Law-
yer
in their summer 2012 State & Local Tax Sym-
posium edition. “The paper is about Due Process
Clause being used to challenge retroactive taxes,
and the need for the U.S .Supreme Court to hear
one of these appeals to create a bright-line rule,
since states currently apply very di erent rules
and often don't even follow their own precedent
in order to pursue their own revenue agenda,”
she says. Better you than me, Guin!
Marshall Fiese
married
Katie Nee
on Janu-
ary 7, 2012, in Lake Placid, N.Y. Laurentians in
attendance included
TJ Senke
,
Joe Vele, Hana
Obernesser
,
Kris Shallish
and
Gri n Gribbell
.
Congratulations to you both!
Chris Kerr
is still living on Cape Cod and work-
ing for JK Scanlan Company, Inc. He has also
started the MBA program at Northeastern and in
his spare time (I can’t believe he has any with that
schedule!) he enjoys playing in a men’s baseball
league on the Cape. He often sees
Andrew Enge-
bretson
, among other classmates and baseball
teammates.
The North Country is enjoying the hard work of
Louise Gava
and her husband, Josh Carter, this
summer! They started a Community Supported
Agriculture (CSA) farm for the 2012 growing sea-
son. It provides small-scale organic veggie pro-
duction for their neighbors as well as Canton and
surrounding communities.
I’m excited about Louise’s endeavor and how
much it will bene t the community I am proud
to be a part of. I’m also excited to call her a col-
league again! I returned to St. Lawrence in March
as a writer in the University communications of-
ce after working at SUNY Canton as their pub-
lic relations coordinator since 2010. My new role
includes telling the wonderful stories of our cur-
rent students, faculty members, sta and alumni
in publications, on our website, and through so-
cial media. I consider myself lucky – there aren’t
many people who get to do the work they love at
a place they love even more.
Last, I must share the unfortunate news I re-
ceived about
BrianHanson
, who passed away on
February 9, 2012. I had several people reach out to
let me know howmuch Brian meant to them and
what a tragic loss this was for those who knew
him and for the entire Laurentian community. A
friend of Brian’s wrote, “Brian’s genuine character
and soul inspired both teammates and friends,
who remember his animated nature, infectious
laugh, famous bear hugs and extreme kindness.
He will be forever loved and missed terribly.” For
more about Brian, see “In Memory.”

me that he's nishing his JD at Cornell Law School
this year and has accepted a position as a law

politan Museum of Art.

The spring was busy with alumni connections.
Thanks to those of you who sent material; please
keep it coming!
Drew Weaver
has been living in Worcester,
Mass., and is entering his second year working for
the family business, Weaver Material Service. His
job with the company, a metals foundry, main-
tains sales in New England region. Drew was re-
cently asked to join the Board of Directors of the
American Foundry Society (AFS). Drew said he
is excited to help grow the New England chap-
ter. He attended a St. Lawrence event before the
Harvard men’s hockey game, where he caught up
with teammates and friends including
Pat Kelli-
her
,
Derek Keller
and Aaron Bogosian ’11.
Led by committee chairs Samantha Levitan
’09, Arianne Berger ’09 and Christina Strong
’10 (left to right), the alumnae members of
Delta Delta Delta's Beta Chapter hosted this
year's first annual Gold Gala on March 3 in
New York City. The black-tie evening was
very well attended by St. Lawrence alumni
with strong representation across several
class years. As they danced well into the
night, alumni relished the opportunity to
reconnect with classmates in the name
of a great cause. Keeping with Tri-Delta's
long-standing philanthropic goals, the event
raised more than $13,500 for St. Jude Chil-
dren's Research Hospital.
