t. Lawrence’s riding program, one of
the early members of the Intercol-
legiate Horse Show Association, has
established itself as one of that organiza-
tion’s premiere teams despite signifcant
growth in the number of competitors,
particularly from schools with equine
science curricula. With the expansion of
teams, earning a trip to the national cham-
pionship show has become more and more
difcult, but St. Lawrence coach Mary
Drueding has compiled an admirable
record. Her 2010-11 team fnished second
in the nation to earn Reserve National
Championship honors for the third time
since 2001.
Additionally,
Casey Zuraitis ’13
and
Jenna Gunnell ’13
won individual
national championships. Zuraitis became
just the sixth rider in program history to
win a national fences class when she took
the blue ribbon in intermediate equita-
tion over fences, while Gunnell won the
walk-trot national championship.
Molly
Hayssen ’11
also qualifed for national
championship competition.
Tere’s more: Saints riders took two
championships in team classes.
Jordan
Koivu ’11
won intermediate on the fat
and
Sophie Miller ’13
, whose mother,
Hillary Simons Miller ’83, was national
champion in novice equitation on the
fat in 1980, won the team competition
in walk-trot-canter. Also scoring in the
national in the team competition were
Jessie Lewis ’14
, another daughter of a
former Saints national champion (Carol
Schneible Lewis ’80), third in intermedi-
ate fences, and
Suzanne Snyder ’11
, third
in open on the fat and eighth over fences.
Snyder also competed as the region’s high
point rider for the Cacchione Cup and
fnished 14th among the nation’s 36 top
intercollegiate riders.
Other spring notables:
Aimee Caligiore ’13
, the frst Saints
women’s golf All-American (Honorable
Mention) and the frst to compete in the
NCAA Division III Championships as
an individual. Finishing tied for 14th,
Caligiore shot one of the best rounds of
the day at the NCAAs in the third round,
jumping 21 spots in the standings.
Dan Ramsey ’11
, who capped an out-
standing four-year career in track and feld
by being named the male winner of the
Martha Finch Memorial Outstanding

Senior Athlete Award. (Te female win-

crown” of All-America honors in his junior
year, earning the accolade for cross country
as well as both indoor and outdoor track
and feld.
Chris Funch ’11
, who met NCAA
provisional qualifying standards in the
steeplechase, and
Caitlin Estes ’11
, All-
Conference in feld hockey, named Out-
standing Senior Scholar-Athletes. Funch
compiled a GPA of 3.81 while majoring
