Alumni Accomplishments
Tracy William Kennedy ’92 had a special
reason to return to campus for Commencement 2005; her father-in-law,
novelist William Kennedy, received an honorary degree and
spoke at the ceremony. From left are President Daniel

Sally B. Logan ’76, a partner in Hodgson
Russ LLP’s Estates & Trusts Practice Group in its
Buffalo, N.Y., office, has been elected president of the board
of directors of Explore & More children’s museum.
Located in historic East Aurora, N.Y., Explore & More
is filled with hands-on exhibits made expressly to encourage
creativity, curiosity and imagination in children ages 1 to
10. Logan concentrates her practice in estate planning and
administration.
St. Lawrence Trustee John P. Loughlin ’79,
formerly president of Gemstar-TV Guide International Inc.'s
TV Guide Publishing Group, has been named executive vice president
and general manager of Hearst Magazines. Loughlin's general
management duties at Hearst Magazines Division include oversight
of circulation, Internet operations, finance, manufacturing,
distribution and strategy. In addition, he assumes the role
of executive vice president of the advisory board and senior
vice president of Comag Marketing Group LLC (CMG), and director
and vice president of Communications Data Services, Inc. (CDS).
He holds an MBA from the Harvard Graduate School of Business
Administration. At St. Lawrence, he was a government and English
major, a participant in the Kenya Program and president of
the student government.
Several Laurentians took part in the 2005 Mark A. Monaco Memorial
Golf Tournament at the Niagara County Golf Course in Lockport,
N.Y., on July 30. The tournament, in which some 225 people
competed this year, is a fund-raiser for the Mark A. Monaco
Memorial Foundation, which contributes to the educational,
social and cultural development of the community in Mark’s
name. A 1996 St. Lawrence graduate, he died in an accident
in 1998. Next year’s tournament is set for July 29;

Carat Interactive, an advertising and marketing agency, announces
the appointment of Mark Russell ’90 as
senior vice president/managing director of its Boston office.
Russell is well known for his insightful industry commentary,
and has been quoted in the New York Times, Adweek and Direct
Marketing Business Intelligence. Most recently,
he was founder and CEO of C-Quential, Inc., an online brand
marketing company that was acquired by Connelly Partners
in 2004. He holds a JD in corporate law from the Western
New England School of Law and has been an active member of
the Massachusetts Bar Association since 1996.
Devon Energy Corporation has announced that William
A. Van Wie ’67 has been appointed to the new
position of vice president and general manager, exploration.
Responsible for coordinating Devon's global exploration activities,
he will remain in Houston, Tex. Van Wie is treasurer of the
American Geological Institute Foundation, a member of the National
Ocean Industries Association's Board of Directors, vice chairman
of the Independent Petroleum Association of America's Offshore
Committee and a delegate for the American Association of Petroleum
Geologists. At St. Lawrence, he majored in geology, and earned
master's and doctoral degrees in geology from the University
of Cincinnati. He has been a career advisor and chair of his
Reunion Development Committee. In 2000, the University received
a gift from Van Wie to establish the Harold Van Heusen Scholarship
Endowment.
