All Hail Coach Marsh
Retired Head Men’s Hockey Coach Joe Marsh, followed by members of
his family, departs to a standing ovation from a full house at Appleton
Arena after being honored between periods of the Saints’ home opener
during Homecoming Weekend last fall. In his hand is a framed jersey
signed by many of his former players. Marsh, who stepped down last
spring after 26 seasons and 468 victories, was also lauded for his First-
Year Program teaching and extensive community involvement.
Marsh continues to inspire; after the rousing ceremony, the Saints went
on to blank Alabama-Huntsville, 4-0. His successor as head coach is a
former player, Greg Carvel ’93.
Other events recognizing Marsh included a dinner, an alumni hockey
game and a pep rally that was part of Homecoming Weekend. “You can’t
get too emotional,”Marsh told a local newspaper reporter, “but this has
been a blast.”
