CLASS NOTES
SUMMER 2012 | ST. LAWRENCE UNIVERSITY MAGAZINE 39
That is one of the reasons that my Bucket List con-
tains attendance at reunions, both high school
and college. Since we have one coming up in
2013, please add that to your list. Let's take the
opportunity to greet an old friend, lift a glass, belt
out a tune, and relive some cherished moments
from our four years on The Hill.

My one and only post-Christmas letter arrived
frommy longtime pen pal,
Dave Matthews
, who
wrote from a remote area of Mexico in January.
This time his travels also took him to Guatemala
and the Caribbean coast of Honduras. His letters
are always full of fascinating details of his travels
in Mexico. He generally roams only in safe areas,
meeting many friends he has acquired from his
travels there. Through them, he learns of the
not-so-wonderful things that can happen in the
unsafe areas.
Since Ira died several years ago,
Nita Libovsky
spends a great deal of time with her son and his
family, which includes two grandsons. Nita in-
cluded two great photos, one of her daughter,
Leah, a successful chef, pictured on the cover of
BravaMagazine
.
Sadly, I received word that we lost a special class-
mate in early March - -
Don Pickard
. His longtime
friend
DonAmidon
calledme with the news. Fol-
lowing a devastating automobile accident in the
spring of our junior year, Don returned to com-
plete his degree with the Class of 1960. He began
his career as a sports writer and went on to enjoy
an outstanding career in the newspaper world, as
a writer and editor with many accomplishments.
Jack and I traveled to Sarasota, Fla., in February
to celebrate "our" 75th birthday with my twin sis-
ter Ann, who is married to John Lafabregue, Class
of 1958. We had a wonderful time, and enjoyed
this landmark birthday.
Dorothy Toth Beasley
wrote from Atlanta, Ga.,
that she, my sister-in-law
Debbie Castle Foun-
tain
and several other alums met at Dorothy’s
home for a potluck supper a few months ago.
They discussed how to improve Atlanta alumni
events. Dorothy spent some time in NYC taking
a class and reunited with
Barbara Kraebel
. She
also reconnected with
Isabelle Keyes Richards.
Isabelle has become quite an accomplished artist.
Dorothy enclosed photos of two of her paintings,
which are beautiful. If you who would like to re-
connect with Isabelle and learn more about her
work, I can give you her email. She lives in South
Salem, N.Y., and in NewYork City.
Finally,
Ruth Carling Budlong
and I can share
some exciting news! We have broken through
the minimum book value requirement that per-
mits the Class of 1959 Scholarship to name a
student from the new incoming class this fall. I
look forward to introducing the worthy recipient
to you in my next column. Ruth and I thank you
profusely for your continued support.
We encourage you to continue with completing
your pledges as your circumstances permit.

Joyous news from
Sandy Towle
: “In November,
my grandson Jacob arrived. In February, my rst
novel's manuscript was completed and we began
the process of publishing. And in March, my son,
just back from a year in themountains of Afghani-
stan, was married.” Sandy’s novel is an action/
thriller that takes place in China, Paris, Alameda
and New Orleans. I’ll let you know when it’s pub-
lished.
When reading the Winter
St. LawrenceMagazine
,
Steve Anderson saw the note about Harry ’60 and
Carol Hanke Teich
. Harry and Steve were room-
mates for two years in high school and Steve was
hoping to reconnect.
Steve and Barbara celebrated their fth anni-
versary in the Galapagos! Steve said he’d been
reminded of
David Geis,
who heard Steve’s
pitch to investment bank analysts about a bio-
technology client.
Paul Taylor
and I were in Deming, N.M., in Janu-
ary. We happened to visit a museum, which is a
jewel in this small town. When hearing we were
from Washington, D.C., a docent mentioned she
had graduated fromhigh school in Bethesda, Md.,
in 1957. I thought for amoment and said, “Do you
know
Barbara KrickbaumClapp
?” Sure enough!
Earlier that week, Paul and I visited Bill and
Car-
ole Sperzel Clark
, snow birds in Tucson. In Feb-
ruary, their daughters and the “grands” visited.
They enjoyed trips to the Grand Canyon, Sedona,
Taliesin West (Frank Lloyd Wright’s winter home
in Scottsdale), the Southwest Indian Art Fair and
more. Last fall in Connecticut, Carole and Bill
had lunch with Reggie ’59 and
Lucy Prescott
Bowden
.
In February, I had lunch with
Canna Smyth
Rocco
and
Marion Bessey Hart
. Canna has ve
grandchildren, ages 2 to 10, who all live near each
other in Manhattan. What’s even better is that
Canna has an apartment on the Upper East Side
which is close to both families. She visits there
frequently and would love to see any of us when
we’re in town.
Marion Hart and Doug stayed with
Claire
Schwennker Stilwell
on their way south for a
winter vacation. In the spring, Marion headed a
very successful bene t for one of the women’s
clubs she belongs to. In addition she keeps busy
with bridge, mahjong and volunteer work.
Natalie Beaumont
plans to visit her son in Cali-
fornia later in the year. Meanwhile, she’s increas-
ing the amount of dancing she does – folk, Scot-
tish, zumba and salsa, but not all at the same time!
She’s also supporting the Englewood Library in
