Reflections

I almost cried
Yesterday
Flipping through a photo album
Where
I found you
Staring back
At me
The rain danced
Upon my window sill
Outside
Where the trees bowed
At the wind's command
And I ached
For your presence
And the nervous shaking
Of my hands
Worn with stress,
Cigarette in hand
Windows down
We'd drive
Colors faded
As fall
stretched
on...
Interminable distances
Rolling outward
Into the orange peak
Of the horizon
I remember trying to find
Your eyes
Behind the silver
glare
Of your sunglasses
But the sunlight
Bounced back
And I found myself
Staring
At my own reflection,
And then Hurt and lost
I turned my
head
And mouthed
Goodbye
