Momentum from the Beginning
The University in 1989 and 2003
Riding the momentum of the Advantage Saints endeavor, Campaign
St. Lawrence has touched upon almost every aspect of University
life. Thanks to its success, St. Lawrence will benefit for years to come
from the strides the campaign has permitted the University to take. Among
them are:
• A University Fellows program, wherein students engage in directed
summer research;
• Greatly increased use of technology in teaching;
• A global studies academic program and three new international studies
programs (Australia, China and Trinidad & Tobago) as well as an Adirondack
Semester, modeled after the international programs but much closer to
home;
• The Pluralism and Unity Project, which bridged academic initiatives
in intercultural studies with the day-to-day real lives of students and
faculty;
• A soon-to-be-completed new student center;
• Seven new sports teams;
• Several new sports venues, including fields for soccer, baseball and
softball, in addition to those developed in earlier phases of the campaign;
• A thoroughly renovated main library, capable of handling modern
technology as well as several years of additions to its collections;
• A new bookstore, in the former Brewer Field House;
• Six endowed professorships in disciplines ranging from statistics
to fine arts, plus an endowment to bring a visiting writer to campus
as a writer-in-residence;
• The Integrated Science Education Initiative, a collaboration of faculty
from six departments, and a field station at the Park Street entrance
to the Kip Tract (currently in the initial stages of construction);
• Extensive campus landscaping.
