Facilities Master Plan
in the Works
The University’s Board of Trustees
will receive a new Facilities Master Plan
at its October meeting. The plan is
an update of the campus “blueprint,”
a comprehensive document that will
guide the evolution of the campus over
the next decade and beyond.
A major centerpiece of the plan is ex-
pected to be a proposed residential hall.
A possible location and other details
were still being considered at press time.

A comment by a reader, regarding
our last issue’s story on alumni who
have gone into college teaching, got us
wondering: Which class currently boasts
the most professors? And the answer is:
1967
and 1968, tied at 16, with 1974,
1977
and 1981 close behind at 14 each.
Vice President
of Libraries
and IT Named
Justin D. Sipher has been appointed
vice president for libraries and infor-
mation technology, a new senior-level
position at
St. Lawrence. He
had been chief
technology of-
ficer at Skidmore
College before
beginning his
duties at St.
Lawrence on
Aug. 27.
Sipher has been
asked to develop a strategic vision that
builds on the collaborative work of the
University's libraries and information
technology, as well as the staff in these
two areas, “to give leadership, oversight
and strategic integration in dual areas
vital to campus life," President Fox
said. He will lead the development of
a Learning Commons, to be housed in
Owen D. Young Library and promot-
ing integration of new information and
computing systems for teaching, learn-
ing and administrative work.
A native of Gouverneur, N.Y., Sipher
earned both his bachelor's and master's
degrees at SUNY Potsdam. He worked
there from 1994 to 2005, ultimately
being named assistant vice president
for information technology, the senior
technology officer with responsibility
for academic, administrative and com-
munications technology. —MD
