Travis Babcock Proulx
continues to make
headlines with his work in NewYork State politics.
Proulx, a spokesman for the NewYork State Senate
Democrats, moved to the communications arm of
the Office for People with Developmental Disabili-
ties. A Lewis County native, he is well known in
the North Country political sphere, having worked
with Democrat Darrel Aubertine’s campaign for
the Senate. He coined the “One of us” slogan that
helped Mr. Aubertine to victory over Republican
Will Barclay ’92. Best of luck,Travis!
That is all I have for now. Please keep your news
rolling in. I’m sure you are all up to wonderful
things! Until next time, I wish you all the best!

Next Reunion: 10th, 2015
It was a busy spring and summer for our class with
the combined 5th reunion (with ’06 and ’07) in
June. I was annoyed at first that we weren’t hav-
ing our reunion on the actual 5th year but it was
nice seeing friends from the other classes. And I’m
now looking forward to our 10th reunion (in just
four years).
Classmates I saw included
Melissa Glotz-
becker
, who is in Boston and still running mara-
thons, like Boston’s;
Lars-Erik Siren
, who is
also near Boston and working in film and docu-
mentaries;
Leah Quinn
, who is getting married
this fall;
Susan Comley
, who had just bought a
house in the Albany, N.Y., area;
Evan Slater
, who
now lives in Plattsburgh, N.Y., and is finishing up
his doctorate in psychology;
Lindsay Farrar
,
who started her own counseling practice in Lake
George; and
Liz Chadwick Burns
, who moved
in February back to Ogdensburg from Florida.
I saw a bunch of other people and a lot of famil-
iar faces Reunion Weekend. I was able to at least
catch up with a few over Dana brunch, drinks at
the Hoot and food at Sergi’s.The Glass Onion, by
the way, is now The Club; it is still a nice restau-
rant/bar.
I didn’t do the full-out reunion experience this
time but I think I might next time. Since it was
my friend
Clementine Vitek
’s bachelorette
weekend as well, we went up to Ottawa Friday
night with
Chinasa Izeogu Seyse
, Liz, Evan,and
Kathy Dunn ’03.Then on Saturday night we stayed
at the Cascade Inn, where it seemed a lot of alums
were also staying – especially from a couple of for-
mer fraternities.
I went to my sorority’s open house on Saturday.
There I saw a lot of younger and older alums, in-
cluding Meaghan McGuinness ’07, Kendall Laun-
dersWilson ’06, Mallorie Rulison ’07,Ariel Riddick
’07, Sarah Treptow ’07, Kristen Manganini ’07, and
Ginger Munt Tebo ’01.
I had the most amazing smoothie ever at the
Bookstore – it was a mandarin passion fruit drink
and I highly recommend it. While sipping that, I
hung out with Jeremy Ouellette ’04, his wife
Anja
Carven
(with their dates, hubbies and significant
others). It was such a fun Bedford, N.Y., wedding!
Maury looked beautiful, and the dance floor was
packed from beginning to end!
“The next weekend I headed up to SLU for
Reunion where Claire Spollen and I represented
Corey College together for our 10th. It was so
nice to be back on campus; the weather was beau-
tiful, as was the campus, and it was just a blast to
visit [old haunts] after so long!” Thanks for all the
news, Erica!
Nat Smith
wrote with news about a book
coming out on August 1, 2011, co-edited with Eric
Stanley. It is entitled
Captive Genders:Transembodi-
ment and the Prison Industrial Complex
, about the
prison system and transgender people’s struggles
within and against it. Nat is a certified wildlife re-
habilitator, currently finishing the last year of veter-
inary nursing school, will be applying to veterinary
schools in the next year, and still lives in and loves

Speaking of books,
Mark Brand
wrote that
his third book, a novel called
Life After Sleep
, was
self-published in March. He’s begun hosting and
producing a bi-monthly half-hour podcast called
Breakfast with the Author: “Two authors come to
my house, I cook them breakfast on the spot, and
we sit and talk unscripted about writing, writers
and the industry of producing fiction. General gos-
sip, humor and hijinks are encouraged. It’s been
very warmly received so far, and I’ve had some
excellent authors, editors and publishers on the
show.” It’s available on iTunes and downloadable
to iPad, iPhone and other mobile devices.
Jess Niven-Kohring
wrote to say she ac-
cepted a position at the Los Angeles Zoo as a cu-
rator of education.
Thanks for all the updates, everyone! If you
haven’t given SLU your updated e-mail address,
please do. It’s a great way for me to get in touch
with everyone for updates.
