Jill Scott Jablonski
is happy to have her twin
daughters, Laura and Paige, 24, nearby in Roches-
ter, N.Y. Laura is nutrition manager at a senior
living facility and Paige is a registered dietitian at a
local hospital. Both were going to Honduras this
summer on a mission trip for their church.
As noted in the last issue,
Jay Ireland
is the
new head of GE Africa in Kenya. I also saw that at
Designer Day in NYC in June, lifestyle expert and
editor
Charlotte Barnard
spoke on the grow-
ing demand for “American Craft” products in both
the fashion and design industries. Char has spent
over 20 years in media, recently as deputy editor
of
Country Living
magazine, where she oversaw all
editorial content. Previously, she was copy direc-
tor at
Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia
, directing
content for packaging and all print, television and
radio spots. Earlier in her career, Charlotte served
as editor-in-chief of Hearst Special Publications
and held senior positions at
Vogue, Glamour
and

nique
. She consults with a range of businesses from
digital start-ups to retail ventures and has been
a frequent speaker at industry events and trade
shows such as NeoCon, High Point and KBIS.
Bill Snipes
, who lives in Hawaii, told the ’78
reporter that they were looking forward to a trip
to the U.S. mainland so that their daughter, 12, can
have a shot at competing in the Junior Olympics in
taekwondo. She won the Hawaii state champion-
ship, which qualifies her for the national tourna-
ment.

Darcy Rieman MacClaren
and Joel ’77 were
quite busy in the spring attending their son David’s
varsity men’s SLU crew events and then David’s
graduation.
Mike Quinn
(aka Bongo) and Beth
also headed to Canton for daughter McCayla’s
graduation. McCayla was an English major and
graduated cum laude. During graduation weekend,
Bongo attended the MacClaren family BBQ, gen-
erously sponsored to celebrate the SLU Class of
2011’s graduation.
Bongo had hoped to see
Chris Schol
and
Bri-
an Morrison
, as their son,Will, also graduated.
Bongo’s daughter, Gabby, completed her fresh-
man year at SLU and spent the spring semester in
France. As a result, she got last pick for on-campus
room selection for next fall, and ended up at 62
Park – which caused Bongo to reflect, “it’s none
other than the ol’ SAE House!” Bongo’s son Nick
graduated from St John’s University and is writing
a sports blog while he plans his future.
On April 21, I received an e-mail announcing that
Henley Smith
of Commonwealth Asset Man-
agement would be appearing on Bloomberg TV
that evening to provide a market and earnings re-
cap. Henley is the chief investment officer at Com-
monwealth, which offers fixed income products
and strategies. He and his wife,
Michelle De
Luca Smith
, reside in Easton, Conn. Michelle
is a project coordinator at J. Tallman Builders of
Fairfield, Conn.
Tom Legg
continues at his search business,
Management Recruiters of Hendersonville, N.C.,
while Joanne continues her teaching and has just
one more year until retirement. Tom can’t wait!
Their son Michael manages a Sherwin Williams
paint store in Greensboro, N.C., while their son
Daniel is a student at the College of Charleston,
in Charleston, S.C.
A “John Clark roast/wrestling reunion” on June
10-12 included many members of the class of ’78
and resulted in a flurry of e-mails. Harold “Tom”
Tomlinson ’76 said it was “quite a reunion (and) a
great retrospective on the program’s history and
all that Clark accomplished. Little did I know that
Frank Shields ’54 was the coach when it was a club
and Clark was a student. I didn’t realize at the
time that my freshman year was Clark’s first year,
and he was only 26 years old. Clark’s vision was to
go from club sport to a national championship, and
he accomplished that, by capturing the DIII NCAA
championship in 1988.”
Approximately 75 alums attended the roast/
reunion and ’78 wrestlers there were
Mitch
Brown, Nate Shippee, Gene Smith
and
Louie Vito

writes, “I’ve been in Maine for
the last 25 years and work for Bath Iron Works,
named after the town of Bath, Me., not plumbing
supply. We build ships for the Navy. I am recently
‘unmarried’ and in February took a one-year as-
signment out in San Diego. My two daughters have
both graduated and are successfully launched—
Kate teaches kindergarten at The Fay School in
Southborough, Mass., and Megan is an ICU nurse
at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Hospital in New
Hampshire—so I said, why not! You don’t have to
plan around the weather; the hard part is deciding
what to do. And the ski season wasn’t a total loss;
I did get in a trip to Austria in March for 10 days
of alpine touring.”
Thanks go to all the classmates who have con-
tributed/shared their news over the past two
years. Isn’t it fun to read about all your old friends?
Keep it coming!
